Una Morgan makes Break Through Progress with new Solo Album - news [2010-02-11]
Una Morgan is the sole female sibling of the Reggae band of this decade, Morgan Heritage. Despite having ten studio albums under her belt with her family band, having performed for stadium-sized audiences across the world, and having garnered much of the success and longevity that many artistes can only hope for, in 2006 Una took a step back from the limelight. “I wanted to take time to recreate and develop myself physically, mentally, and spiritually.” During this time she also focused on building her production company; SIA Entertainment, strengthening family ties, improving her physical health, and connecting with her spirituality. Yet as a true performer, Una could not sit back idly.
Now as a solo artist she has developed with her own distinctive sound.Una Morgan’s signature sound is a blend of Reggae, Dancehall, Pop, Hip Hop and Soul fused to be appropriately called Raggasoul. With this distinctive sound, an excellent voice and great studio production Una’s single “Giving” produced by Lenky ( Sean Paul, Nina Skys etc) perfectly captures her sound.. She is also excited about the contribution made on the “Tribute to Haiti” track produced by the great Handel Tucker. (producer of Maxi Priest – Close to You, Shabba Ranks – House Call, and Just a Little bit longer, hits with Sly and Robbie and Beenie Man) [Maybe get a quote from Una about what it means to her to contribute to this charity song]
Una has is also working with acclaimed local and international producers on her debut solo album. She is very excited about working with multi Grammy Award winning producers Commission Gordon [Lauryn Hill, Amy Winehouse, Joss Stone) a collaboration that was set up by Rubikon ENT who list Gordon among their clients.
Her solo album presents collaborations with established and new names in the industry. On her album she has worked with other established producers and writers, such as, Stephen McGregor, Jimmy Cozier, and Taj from the 90’s group The Boys. However, Una has also returned to her hometown of Springfield, Atlanta to work with rising stars such as Kiana India, ME, and producer “X”,[ in the hope that she can give these young talents the launching pad for their careers that they have been looking for
The Raggasoul songstress, Una Morgan hopes that with her new album, entitled Just Me, she can show her evolution in music, life, and spirituality, while continuing to uphold her family’s legacy.
To address the rumors, Una ensures her fans that her solo venture is not signaling the breakup of Morgan Heritage. “We always knew that we would build as a group, use that foundation to take things to the next level, and then come back to the family.” You can even find some more Morgans on the credits, with brothers Mr. Mojo and Gramps assisting in mixing and production, a true testament to the strong bond that keeps their family together.
Looking to fully capitalize on her groups’ international success, Una has recently signed to Gary George Inc. (GGI) and Rubikon Entertainment management companies to use their pooled wealth of resources for management and legal services to propel her development. Rubikon is a UK-based management and legal firm that provide management and legal & business affairs to a slew of prominent artistes and producers amongst other entities
Una Morgan has undoubtedly been blessed, but don’t be fooled; Miss Morgan has not let her accomplishments go to her head. She remains humble and has made it her personal mission to use her celebrity, as well as her music, to champion issues such as health, weight management, self-esteem, and other issues plaguing women around the world. “I’m very concerned that many young women today are doing things to please everyone else. We need to work on being one with the Creator first, and I hope my music can inspire young women to do that.”
PORTMORE EMPIRE SEEKS TO RECOUP LOSSES FROM - news [2010-01-30]
Kingston, JA (Ms. RAINE INC): In light of the announcement that artist Kim Hamilton--formerly known as Gaza Kim, now known as Kym--has chosen to exit the Portmore Empire and Adidjahiem Records, Empire leader and record company CEO Adidja "Vybz Kartel" Palmer issues the following statement:
The Portmore Empire invested a substantial amount of money in the career of singer Kim Hamilton--filming music videos, printing promotional posters and clocking several hours in the studio honing her talent. We're disappointed that she felt the need to issue a press release to the media announcing her departure from the record label, Adidjaheim Records, without first notifying the company. This is particularly disturbing given the fact that she is still under contract and the record company has fulfilled its end of the agreement.
Nevertheless, we understand and respect her decision to leave even if we don't agree. We are prepared to negotiate the terms of her contract, to grant her creative freedom, while minimizing the impact on the company, as is customary in matters of business.
The Portmore Empire will continue to support and seek out young artistes in Dancehall. We believe that Jamaica has a never-ending reservoir of talent and the Empire will continue to develop and market young acts.
-Adidja Palmer-
This latest statement comes on the heels of a week-long firestorm of controversy surrounding an alleged attack on Kym at the hands of four men she claims to be affiliated with the Portmore Empire. Early this week, Vybz Kartel released a statement condemning the alleged attack on the 17-year old singer.
Buju's lawyers claim he was set up; demand details on the police source - news [2010-01-27]
FROM THE JAMAICA GLEANER 27.01.2010
Lawyers representing dancehall star Buju Banton, real name Mark Myrie, have filed a motion in court demanding the naming of the confidential source who is a key part of the case against the Jamaican.
The lawyers are using an entrapment defence as they try to get Buju freed of charges of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine, and aiding and abetting the possession of a firearm during the course of an illegal activity.
In court yesterday, the lawyers filed a motion for an order "compelling the government to disclose the identity and location of the confidential informant who was an eyewitness and participant in the events, which are the subject of both counts of the indictment".
According to the document filed in the court: "The informant was clearly an active participant in the entire chain of events."
Buju's lawyers further argue that: "The facts and circumstances of the confidential sources' contacts with Mr Myrie display a deliberate effort by a paid informant to ensnare a perfect stranger, who happened to be sitting next to him on an international flight, into committing a crime, thereby ensuring the informant more money."
First meeting
The lawyers claim that the informant first met Buju on a flight from Madrid, Spain, to Miami, Florida, on July 26, 2009 by: "Sheer chance, bad luck or other reason to which the defendant is unaware."
According to the lawyers, the police informant spent the next several months trying to convince Buju to purchase cocaine.
They note that, in the papers filed in court by the United States Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), there is no mention of any contact between Buju and the informant before December 8, days before he was arrested.
"The confidential source is a paid government informant. In addition to refusing to disclose the identity, the government has refused to identify the prior cases in which he has been involved, the outcomes of those cases, the amount of money he has earned making cases for the government, or even the amount he has been paid (or expects to be paid) in this case," said Buju's lawyers in the document obtained by The Gleaner.
While citing several legal precedents, Buju's lawyers have also asked the court to direct the prosecution to release all reports that contain the confidential source's alleged conversations with Buju that were not taped or video recorded, and the report(s) summarising what the source claimed were his unrecorded conversations with Buju when they were on that flight.
Requesting payment evidence
The lawyers are also requesting evidence of all payments made by state and federal law enforcement authorities to the confidential source in this case, and in other cases where the source operated as a paid informant.
Buju has been in detention in the United States since December 10 when he was held in Florida after a DEA sting operation, during which his two co-defendants were arrested at a warehouse where they had allegedly gone to buy cocaine.
The dancehall star was not at the warehouse at the time the others were arrested, but the DEA claims it has audio and video evidence of the artiste testing a package of cocaine.
Buju is being represented by prominent US attorneys David Oscar Markus and Marc David Seitles.
He is slated to return to court on February 4 for a status conference before the trial begins in the week of March 1.
The DJ will remain in custody while his attorneys manoeuvre.
VYBZ KARTEL CONDEMNS ALLEGED ATTACK ON GAZA KIM - news [2010-01-25]

Kingston Jamaica:-There
have been recent media reports about a DNA test result that involved
Jah Cure. While not wishing to join the media circus that has ensued
because of these revelations, Jah Cure wishes to outline a few facts
and settle the matter once and for all.
Jah Cure has supported the mother throughout her pregnancy and had
his father and manager be with her at the time of delivery in the US.
His support for her throughout this period was unwavering.
Before
the birth of the child Jah Cure requested a DNA test, a request which
the mother refused. Despite this, Jah Cure continued to support the
child and the mother.
Now that the DNA test has been done and it has been shown that he is not the father, Jah Cure wishes to move on.
The
fact is that the most important individual in this whole affair is the
child and the longer that this continues the more damage is being done
to the child. Jah cure will not now abandon the child but wishes that
the media respect the privacy of the parties as the child is indeed
innocent and did not contribute to the mistakes of the adults involved.
Lisa Hype No Longer A Member of Portmore Empire - news [2009-12-30]
Kartel issues the following statement:
"Lisa Hype is no longer a part of the Portmore Empire. The members of the Empire have unanimously agreed to end our professional relationship especially in light of certain 'developments' that have come to our attention regarding her overall conduct, conduct that is not consistent with the decorum expected of a member of the Portmore Empire. She is an incredible artist and we wish for her all the best in her future endeavors, but Lisa Hype will not play a future role in the Empire as she no longer fits in with our organizational goals as we move forward in 2010.

Alborosie’s new album escape from Babylon to the kingdom of zion
Alborosie is known for his conscious lyrics and sometimes controversial subject matter. His new album will continue on that vein. Alborosie’s music is heavily influenced by his Rastafarian beliefs. Hailing from Sicily Italy, he moved to Jamaica to get closer to the Rastafarian culture and the roots of Reggae music. He has been given the stamp of approval by Reggae Legends Sly and Robbie and Freddie McGregor to name a few.
escape from Babylon to the kingdom of zion features 18 tracks filled with the passion and beliefs that Alborosie lives by. His first single “Stepping Out” features David Hinds from the famed reggae band Steel Pulse. They are informing everyone that the Rasta Man is stepping out and coming to the world. The track “Money” opens up with the statement of Debt over life and Money over people, the song goes on to describe how Money is the root of all evil. Included on the 2009 One-Drop Anthems album, the successful track “Humbleness” speaks to those that are blinded by the power they possess and treats his fellow man as if they were something less. The smooth rhythm of “One Sound” and warm vocals of Gramps Morgan from Morgan Heritage, makes this feel good track a must listen. Changing gears on an updated version of the classic trailer load of girls riddim from Shabba Ranks is “Blue Movie Boo”, Alborosie gives us a peek into his erotic side. Alborosie continues to let us know who he is and what he’s about on the roots rhythm track “I Rusalem”. From exposing the situations of the oppressed on “Dung A Babylon”, to uplifting women on “Good Woman,” and telling the youth to know their roots on “Promise Land” Alborosie stays true to his sound and his faith on the album escape from Babylon to the kingdom of zion.
His vocal style blends classic and contemporary influences to form a unique and credible sound. His respect for reggae’s heritage is apparent from first listen. Combining tracks from his previous two albums with 5 newly recorded songs, this album serves as an introduction and presents his biggest hits to date.
Popular deejays Mavado and Vybz Kartel took hundreds of fans for a trip down memory lane on Sunday night, reminding them of a time when there were no Gully-Gaza issues.
The two performed together in a gesture of unity at the annual West Kingston Jamboree stage show in TivoliGardens, Kingston.
When Mavado was called to the stage by Alliance boss Bounty Killer, he soon began hinting at the anticipated meeting with himself and Kartel after unleashing songs like Fall Rain Fall and Every Situation.
"Unnu waa si history?" Mavado asked a few times while urging that the path to the stage be cleared.
Kartel's entrance would then send the crowd into a frenzy and make for the onstage meeting of the two, who were all smiles as they unleashed tune after tune to the delight of the frantic crowd which in return gave them 'forward' after 'forward'.
When Mavado sang the chorus to Happiest Days after Kartel did the first verse, fans were reminded that the two were once friends.
Simultaneous shouts of "Gully" and "Gaza" could be heard echoing from a number of fans who jumped repeatedly to show their approval of the two deejays who shared the stage.
While addressing the audience, Vybz Kartel claimed that the feud between himself and Mavado was planned.
"Yu see wah yu a see, a dis wi plan, yu si wi a war, a plan it plan," Kartel said.
The coming together of the two is said to be the ending of the back and forth word-jabbing and conflict between them which has been going on since 2006.

THE 'TEACHA' SAYS PEACE TALKS BELONG IN SCHOOLS - news [2009-11-23]
Despite reports that Dancehall deejay Vybz Kartel has rejected rival deejay Mavado's olive branch by turning down his birthday party invitation, Kartel maintains that he is willing to put aside differences with his arch-musical-rival to call for an end to violence associated with the Gaza/Gully feud, particularly among high school students.
Both artists have been slammed by the local media, as reports of increasing violence at local schools between fans of the Portmore, or 'Gaza,' Empire led by Vybz Kartel and the Gully Squad led by Mavado continue to flood the news, causing even the government to be concerned about mounting social tensions stemming from the feud between the two entertainers.
On Friday, the Jamaica Star newspaper reported that Mavado was calling for an end to the Gaza/Gully war by inviting Vybz Kartel to attend his birthday party at Temple Hall on December 5th. The paper stated that Mavado's management said they wanted to publicly invite Kartel to make peace once and for all, as a show of unity to the nation.
"I will not be able to attend (Mavado's event) due to previously planned engagements," states Adidja 'Vybz Kartel' Palmer invitation, citing commitments to Usain Bolt's 9.58 SuperParty and an event in Linstead on the same night."What I think is the best way to solidify in the minds of the children that this Gaza/Gully feud is merely music, is not to accommodate a historic 'burning of the peace pipe' at a commercial, adult oriented event, but rather in the high schools where bouts of violence due to our feuding are most prominent," states Kartel "When a date for that is set, I will readily appear."
Vybz Kartel has repeatedly spoken out against violence within the island's schools, condemning the sale of 'Gaza buttons' and other paraphernalia depicting violent images of the feud in Corporate Area Schools earlier this month. This year, Vybz Kartel has released the singles "Teenage Pregnancy" with Portmore Empire artist Gaza Kim, and the "Schooler's Anthem" with Gaza Kim and fellow Empire artist Jah Vinci, bringing awareness to social issues affecting teens and encouraging them to stay in school.
Lisa Hype statement re sex photo - news [2009-11-18]
First, I would like to say that there is no excuse for a picture of that nature to be a part of the public domain. I admit that the picture is real, but it captures a personal act done in the privacy of my bedroom. I don't know how that got leaked to the media and condemn anyone who would stoop to such a low.
However, I understand that I am a public person, and when I say or do something, either articulated and thought out, it carries weight in the public arena. As a result, I must assume personal responsibility for my actions. I would like to apologise specifically to all my female fans who might be disappointed to see me in this light. However, I don't apologise for the act itself because it was done with a man that I truly and deeply love and respect, and it was done in the privacy of my bedroom. I did it, so what?
I would also like to apologise to my family who are truly and deeply hurt by the dissemination of the photo all over the Internet and the media. This is not cool. And this is not funny. This is my life that some unscrupulous person is attempting to destroy, but I am a strong young woman and I will survive. Many young women, like myself, have been exploited and hurt in this way and there comes a point in everyone's life when they have to stop allowing people to hurt them. I am begging young girls across Jamaica to use my life as an example: we live in a male-dominated society but don't allow men to use and abuse you. I have learned my lesson the hard way. The world is a tough classroom, sometimes.
In closing, I want to say thank you to all my young fans who have supported me in this, my darkest hour.

"Vybz Kartel does not sanction or condone the selling of Gaza buttons with violent images and statements, especially to children and teenagers. We do not own the Gaza name but recognize that unscrupulous and unethical persons may be seeking to profit from the popularity of the Gaza name by engaging in these terrible practices. We urge the relevant authorities to move quickly to protect innocent children from those who would seek to corrupt them.
Vybz Kartel is in the business of music, and through Vybz Rum Limited, the business of alcoholic beverages. We are not involved in the business of merchandising, nor do we benefit from the sale of clothing and other paraphernalia which may bear the Gaza name."

Sean Paul album tops Billboard Rap Charts! - news [2009-09-17]
Sean Paul might be in Switzerland, but that won't stop his fourth studio album, Imperial Blaze from continuing to blaze fire on the Billboard charts in the US. The album, his first in four years, has debuted at #1 on the Billboard Rap Album charts, toppling the likes of Eminem, Fabolous and Twista to top the charts.
Sean Paul is also sitting comfortably atop the Billboard Reggae Album Charts, ahead of a Bob Marley compilation, Ziggy Marley's Family Time, and VP Record's Reggae Gold.
This is his first time atop the rap album charts, and his second time on the Billboard Rap Album charts overall as his third studio album, The Trinity, peaked at #3 on the rap charts in 2005. It is also the first time a Jamaican artiste is topping that chart.
Imperial Blaze is heading for international success, debuting at #1 when it was released in the dancehall-hungry Asian nation of Japan last week, selling upwards of 50,000 copies in its first week. He is holding his own on the Billboard Canadian Albums, France Albums, and European Albums with positions #5, #8, and #20 respectively. It is has also been certified Gold in France.
"Anytime a song or an album makes it on a chart I get excited, and now to be able to top the Billboard Top Rap Album charts is something that I'm especially excited about. Not because it's the Billboard charts, but because it's a dancehall album. It's made in Jamaica by Jamaicans. So I didn't top the Billboard Rap Album Charts, Jamaica did," said Sean Paul from Switzerland
Congratulations to Wayne Marshall and Tami Chynn! They will get married September 19th, 2009 in Jamaica. All the best and all the happiness in the world!

Alliance Responds to Beenie Man - news [2009-08-20]
In light of Beenie Man's recent comments regarding his "invitation" for the Alliance to perform at his show this Saturday we just wanted to balance a couple of issues.....
"Beenie himself came to me at Champions in Action and asked me if the artists would be available for his show," said Alliance management's Julian Jones-Griffith. "I'm not sure why he is saying he sent someone to ask me when he himself came to me. And genuinely every artist will be off the island this weekend. I'm in Japan right now with Mavado, Killer and Serani will also be away. A member of Beenie's promotional team contacted my office a couple of months ago asking if Serani would be available but he was already booked in advance. There was no request for Killer or Mavado back then and when Beenie asked me on Saturday they were already contracted for overseas engagements. So for him to say we 'refused' his invitation to unity is putting a negative spin on the situation to say the least."
Cynics are saying Beenie is just using this ploy as part of the intense damage control media campaign both he and Vybz Kartel have undertaken since they were unceremniously booed at Champions in Action. Beenie Man, who did a song called "Gaza mi Seh," declared himself the Gaza Emperor and counteracted Mavado's Mock and Toast is now insisting he isnt saying Gully or Gaza he's saying "Jamaica" and calling for unity. Thats an admirable thing to do, but why the sudden change of heart......in the run-up to his show?
And as for the accusation that the Alliance carried people to Champions to boo Beenie is laughable and not worth another word. They got booed at one stage show and have spent the days since then having their publicists running around like headless chickens with denials, accusations and distractions. Its not that big of a deal but they are only damaging themselves by drawing it out for days like this.
The Alliance sends its congratulations to Usain Bolt, Shely Anne Fraser, Brigitte Foster-Hylton and the rest of the Jamaican athletes that have captured the imagination of the world with their supreme performances in Berlin. And all the best to Beenie with his show.

Spice escapes near fatal car accident - news [2009-08-01]
Early this morning (Saturday), Dancehall artiste Spice was in a head-on, near fatal collision. The artiste was heading to Kingston from Westmoreland, for the much-publicized 'Digicel ATI Flip It Fridays' at the Quad, when a black motor vehicle travelling from Little Ochi sped unto the main road which Spice and others were driving.
Spice says, "Canar (her fiance) was driving and when he realised what was happening, we tried to swerve to avoid the crash, but we still collided. The man in the other vehicle was coming out of Little Ochi and said he didn't realise that the street was finished and he was heading on to the main road. So he came out at the T-Junction without looking. I just can't believe it even now. I can't believe it."
The artiste whose correct name is Grace Hamilton, says a few minutes before the accident she started to feel sleepy, so she asked someone to exchange seats with her and take the front, so she could rest in the back seat of the Pajero. "I am usually in the front seat and some of the times I'm not wearing my seat belt and last night I wasn't because we were in a rush to get back to Kingston for the show at Quad, so I just jumped in. If I was still in the front I would have died because I would have gone through the windscreen. All of the front is totally damaged. It can't be driven. I just can't believe that could have been it. I am thankful to be here right now."
In addition, the artiste's publicist, Kavelle Christie wishes to apologise to the promoters of the event and fans on behalf of Spice. "As anyone can see her absence from the event ('Flip It Fridays') was unavoidable. Grace is completely out of it, but she wanted her apology out there as well. That's just how she is as an artiste and I find it remarkable and admirable that someone could go through something like that but still be so focused and passionate about her work and fans."

Up next on the Anger Management band was Dancehall megastar Mavado, fresh from being bestowed with another accolade from the Urban Music Awards. Mavado proved he is in the elite of Dancehall legends after only 4 years in the limelight, a feat achieved by very few. Catherine Hall was packed with Gully fans and Mavado was given a huge reception as he stepped out, that continued throughout his performance.
Gully God released hit after hit from his astonishingly deep catalogue, before calling out Flex on the Movie Star riddim. Flex underlined his status as one of the real upcoming talents as the crowd roared their approval for his "Swear and I will never" track. Next up was Einstein who's "Get Gal Easy" was received well. Chase Cross stepped out on the Clearance riddim, proving "who's next from the Gully." The audience simply went wild. Mavado raised the temperature with "Money Nuff," exiting the stage before the audience demanded he return for one more explosion, which he delivered with Again and Again.
Earlier Alliance affiliate Kip Rich also rocked the crowd, garnering him plenty of plaudits from the audience and media.
The world is left saluting Bounty Killer's performance and his legacy of giving life to the next generation of Dancehall stars such as Mavado, Elephant Man, Busy Signal and Vybz Kartel to prominence.

In novel and creative move, which shows the versatility of reggae music, songstress Queen Ifrica has released techno remix of her single Far Away. The track is explosive in nature and is reaching new markets with an infusion of the dynamic and intense electronic beats of techno, with the classic ‘one drop’ reggae melody. Originally released in January, Far Away’s laid back vibe of roots rock reggae was remixed by is creator Rickman Warren of Jamplifed Records. “We had a vision for the song” explained Queen Ifrica. “We just got the inspiration to make the tune on a different plane, to a different market, with a different vibe,” she says excitedly. According to the producer Rickman Warren, the seemly unlikely marriage of the contrasting music styles is aimed at increasing the listenership of our Jamaican Reggae artistes and fans, as well as promoting Jamaica reggae music in yet another way. “Our intention is always to be a force in the world wide spread of reggae music,” adds Queen Ifrica. “Reggae music is loved the world over, and we’re just continuing to spread the love.” The “Far Away” Techno Remix will be available for down load soon, from iTunes and other major retailers. Its release coincides with the recent débute of Queen Ifrica’s latest album Montego Bay, which features the, song in its original form.
Paul and Patrick Gaynor, more popularly known as the dancehall duo, Twin of Twins, were taken into custody by the Half-Way Tree police on reasonable suspicion of fraud.
The brothers are accused of taking $50,000 from an upcoming artiste, under the guise that they were able to give him the opportunity to travel to the United States of America to perform.
It is alleged, however, that they failed to deliver on their promise and subsequently refused to return the complainant's money. The act is alleged to have taken place earlier this year and was reported to the police in February.
The brothers were arrested yesterday along Half-Way Tree Road and are now in custody awaiting an interview.
The duo are known for their comedic routines featuring witty social commentary and jabs at popular figures in the entertainment and political worlds. Their latest release, "Trial and Crosses", has been getting rave reviews from fans

"No Games is actually still gaining in spins across the country," said Serani's manager. "This record just won't go away. Its still getting added to playlists in many states across the country every week so it continues to spread."
Serani recently recorded a remix for No Games with songstress Shontelle, while on tour in the UK. Shontelle scored big in the UK with her recent hit "T-Shirt" and being label mates Universal Music made the match and hooked up the two artists. Universal/Island Records will release the No Games + remix package digitally on July 6th.
"Shontelle was great to work with," said Serani. "She's a very talented songwriter and she has a great personality so the chemistry was good in the studio. The remix is hot."

Ziggy Marley responds to Buju Banton - news [2009-05-15]
On April 22, the veteran reggae star Buju Banton— who has been nominated for three Grammys himself—was speaking at the University of the West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica, about his latest release, Rasta Got Soul (Gargamel Music). Banton spoke at length about his own distinguished career, but one of his remarks resonated louder than the others.
“You know they say that the greatest musician in Jamaica is Bob Marley,” Buju told the crowded room. “I don't believe that because we have greater musicians to come. Bob was the most promoted, and well promoted, and we have to appreciate that because it’s our culture. But don't kill our culture… Enough is enough.”
Although the crowd at UWI reportedly applauded his remarks, they were not as well received outside the lecture hall. Jamaican media as well as radio shows and websites around the world have been flooded with outraged remarks from music critics and Bob Marley’s millions of fans. When asked for his thoughts on the matter, Ziggy laughed for a long time before speaking his mind.
“Me love my father, you know? And me love all of my elders and my heroes. And I would never say anything to put down any of them. From Bob to Toots to Peter [Tosh] to Bunny [Wailer]. I wouldn’t say anything to put down any of those guys. You understand? I lift up them. Those are our heroes. We lift them up. We don’t put them down.”

With the impending release of “Our World” on the horizon, T.O.K’s Roshaun Clarke is steadily showcasing his prowess on the music scene under another capacity – as Producer.
For the past year, Bay-C (as he is better known) has been making waves locally and overseas with the production of hit singles such as “Miss World”, featuring TOK and Beenie Man, and riddims like Black Rain, Gargoyle and Money Tree. Despite what people may think, this artiste-turned-producer is not new to the production game. Already his work has been featured on Assassin’s debut album “Infiltrate” as well as Bounty Killer’s “Art of War – Mystery”. Now finally, he has emerged with his own album.
“Bombrush Hour” was released on April 22, 2009 through JVC, Japan, which has been home to several other heavy-hitters on the reggae/dancehall scene – Mavado, Elephant Man, Mighty Crown and T.O.K all fall on their roster.
Since its release, the album has steadily been climbing in sales, both in record stores as well as on the digital market. Most popular on the album are “Trapped” by T.O.K featuring Beenie man, the Rick James/Smoky Robinson cover of “Ebony Eyes” with Alex and Flexx of T.O.K, and the club-banger “Wave” which features Bay-C himself, alongside Tony Matterhorn, Sami-T of Mighty Crown and Cutty of Coppershot. All three songs have somehow pushed themselves into the Top 20 on Japan’s biggest downloading site Reggae Zion, a feat which many albums almost never achieve.
Also included on the album are tracks featuring soca heavyweight Machel Montano, dancehall’s Bounty Killer and Vybz Kartel and promising Bombrush artiste Sleepy Hallowtips.
Bay-C will do promotion for “Bombrush Hour” when T.O.K visits Japan to participate in the annual BMI Music Festival in June. While there, “Bombrush Hour” and “Our World” will be promoted simultaneously.

Rolexx cannot be tested by young selectas - news [2009-04-29]
Selecta Rolexx made a great impression again last Saturday April 25th 2009 at Rendezvouz, held at temple Hall Estate in St Andrew. Rolexx was billed as one of the main acts and according to the Jamaica Star from April 28th 2009 he did an impressive job.
“Although the show was dominated by Alliance members, Rolex used little effort to set the place alive with a number of dubplates coming from Vybz Kartel and the Portmore Empire crew.”
Rolexx says he was chilling backstage when one selecta started playing dubplates calling out his name so he had to go on stage to defend himself. He says further that some of those young selectas are no match to him and they should not come on a show and think they can easily compete with seasoned selectas. According to Rolexx “younger selecta must respect bigger selecta in danchall.”
Rolexx does not wrong Ricky Trooper for being a no-show as he should not clash against a young selecta who has yet to pay his dues in the dancehall business. He says that “Nuh little selecta weh two people know fi gwaan put out some work and then try to disrespect the veterans of danchall. It wud be like a young artiste trying to diss the Marleys.”
It is never advisable to be hype and Rolexx says he does not need any “hurry come up selecta” try contest. He personally reached the venue early that night and did his job even if he played early. He knows what he can do and that he has the respect and love from his fans. He has built up his career and credits over the years. He has made his name first when he used to tour with Vybz Kartel as his disc jockey in 1997/98. Rolexx is a fixture playing at Bembe since its inception and he has played in every island in the Caribbean region as well as all across the USA. Rolexx always puts out the real work, is always ready to mash up a dance and hold his own. For the future he will only step up his game further because “the sky is the limit”!
Next week Rolexx will be off the island to play in New York and Texas and after his return to Jamaica get ready for a few shows in Canada in June.
In a surprise move, dancehall quartet T.O.K began the filming of the music video for the acclaimed single, "Guardian Angel" during the last leg of their US tour. The release of the video will coincide with that of their third album "Our World", which is scheduled for release in Japan on June 16th. Since becoming the #1 ringtone in Japan, Japanese fans have been clamouring for more of the hit single, leading them to make the split-decision to do the video.
The video was shot on location in Miami at the Circle House Recording Studio, with additional scenes from T.O.K's performance at SouthBeach's Sobe Live. Flown in to shoot and direct the project was the team of none other than renowned music video director Ras Kassa, and Ras Tingle.
The eagerly anticipated "Our World" will be released to the Western world on August 25th through VP Records.
Ras Penco scores first no 1 hit - news [2009-04-28]
Reggae artist Ras Penco scores his first number one hit in Jamaica with the romantic ballad, "Thousand Miles," a poignant promise mimicking his life as a traveling musician far and wide, who vows to never break his loyalty to his true love.
The Uprize Music artist humbly welcomes his very first berth at the top of the reggae singles chart (Jamaica Weekly Countdown). "It's a good feeling. I've been trying to get here for quite a while, about six years, and it took a lot of hard work."
"Thousand Miles" has been gaining momentum on the airwaves in Jamaica for over two months, as quality music recently garnered its fair share of airplay amidst a ban on "indecent" dancehall and soca music on the nation's airwaves. This made room for quality and positive music such as Ras Penco's, catapulting him into the limelight. The ensuing video lit up television sets and has also enjoyed rotation, much to the delight of reggae lovers."I wrote it and from the moment I finished recording it in the studio, I knew it was a great song and that people would love it."
Ras Penco is receiving the adulation from fans firsthand. He recently starred on RE-TV's High School Tour, taking his sounds into the schools around Jamaica. "I've been getting crazy love from fans. The song has touched them."
He journeys to Miami next month for the Best of the Best concert, which highlights Caribbean and hip-hop acts at the top of their game. In fact, Ras Penco is only one of two reggae artists booked for the show, and will be sharing the stage with the likes of Rick Ross and T-Pain. "It's a great feeling to be on the show," reveals Ras Penco. "The line-up is mostly dancehall and hip-hp artists, so it's special to be included."
Tune in to the special sounds of Ras Penco, check out the video for "Thousand Miles," and look out for his upcoming singles at www.myspace.com/raspenco.
Dancehall star Vybz Kartel banned from Grenada - news [2009-04-27]
Vybz Kartel has been banned from performing on Grenadian soil at a concert scheduled for Saturday (May 2, 2009).
Rumors have been circulating that the gay rights group might be the ones behind the ban but according to reports by the Associated Press, a government official from Grenada had issued a statement, which stated that a popular Jamaican rapper has been barred from the country due to his raunchy lyrics.
"Lyrics that seem to promote violence have raised concern and led the government to deny the rapper a performance permit," said Senator Ann Peters (Health Minister & Chairman of Grenada’s National AIDS Council).
The promoter of the event titled "Rap-it-up" a concert to promote safe sex and the launching of Vybz Kartel's Daggering condom now seeks legal advice as he claims he spent a huge sum of money on the planning of the event.

Big fans of each other's music, the link was made by Mavado's management and resulted in Bobby inviting Mavado to jump on the remix for his "Hands on Me" single.
In turn Bobby has also sung on Mavado's ladies anthem "Never Believe You," which will drop in time for Summer.
Atlanta native Bobby Valentino's last single "Beep" was a certified smash and he has also been enjoying huge airplay with the hook on Lil Wayne's platinum monster "Mrs Officer."
Mavado just returned to Jamaica after performing at the St Maarten Carnival celebrations at the FestivalVillage. Giving another performance to remember to a huge crowd. Mavado's show was given an extra lift by a a surprise on-stage appearance from the Queen of Soca Alison Hinds, who thrilled the crowd when she answered the Gully God's call and came out and whined with him while the Anger Management band played Force It Up!

Serani continues to break ground - news [2009-04-25]
According to the latest edition of Vibe magazine (with Rhianna on the cover) Jamaican Dancehall sensation Serani has got NEXT!
The prestigious urban bible features the talented singer/producer/musician in its "GOT NEXT" segment, reserved for rising stars on the US scene.
With his hit single "No Games" seemingly refusing to go away, the spins on US radio continue to rise with radio stations as far and wide as upstate New York to Nashville to Colorado Springs rotating the track. "No Games" climbed to #62 on Billboard's Hot 100 Hip Hop and R'n'B charts last week and was played on New York's HOT 97 radio station more than 80 times last week alone.
With the track selling well digitally - peaking at # 4 on the US iTunes Reggae Singles Chart and hitting the # 1 spot on the same iTunes chart in Canada, things are also opening up internationally for Serani too.
"Universal in the UK has had to bring forward No Game's release date over there," said manager Julian Jones-Griffith. "The track has been picked up by all the right stations and disc jockeys in the UK, aswell as in Germany and other European countries so it looks very promising."
Serani will be in the UK next month for the "Brighter Days Tour" alongside fellow Alliance gunner Mavado and Bugle. The tour hits Bristol May 8, Bradford May 9, with the finale at London's Stratford Rex on Sunday May 10.
"Mavado will leave the UK for his first-ever European tour," added Jones-Griffith."Serani will remain in the UK for a few days to do some heavy promotional work over there. We're also adding more and more dates to his Canada tour which is coming up the end of June, so the movement we have started is still growing."
Although "No Games" is still going strong, demand for Serani's music is high and a follow-up single "She Loves Me" has been released digitally also. It has quickly racked up sales and is rapidly climbing the iTunes Reggae singles chart also.
With the official announcement made that Serani and Mavado have been added to the main stage for HOT 97's Summer Jam show - held every year at the Giants Stadium in New Jersey in front of 50,000 people, its more proof that these artists are out there demanding the attention of the mainstream for Dancehall music and culture. This year's Summer Jam is being heralded as the biggest line-up in the show's history and includes performances by Mary J Blige, T Pain, Young Jeezy, Jadakiss, Jim Jones, The Dream, Elephant Man and more.

On Saturday March 28, 2009, my performance at the Red Stripe Live concert was ended prematurely and abruptly, as I was stripped of my microphone and escorted off stage. I have spent many years of hard work and sacrifice building my reputation and brand as an artist, with a great level of integrity and professionalism. Indeed, the decision to include me in the line-up of this particular event is testament to that. I therefore have a responsibility to my fans and the general public to explain exactly what took place.
Upon being booked for the event, the songs I would be performing in my set were submitted in their entirety (without edits) weeks in advance, as requested by the organizers of the event. I rehearsed the songs in their entirety, on two separate occasions, in the presence of representatives from Red Stripe. There was no written or verbal communication from Red Stripe indicating any disapproval of the planned set, nor any discomfort with any specific lyrics or song.During my final rehearsal, I was merely asked to bear in mind the nature of the show, and upon arrival at the venue I was given a generic briefing by the promoters. At this point, there was still no indication from the promoters of any issue or objection to the planned performance.
During my performance, I did not deviate in any way from the rehearsed set. I was therefore shocked when approximately eight minutes into the ten minutes I was allotted, I was forced to discontinue. I was subsequently accused of breaching company policy by using what the promoter labeled offensive and discriminatory lyrical content, specifically, the use of the word "fish" in the song titled "Pree This."
The promoter then demanded that I apologize to the audience, a demand towhich I did not comply. I am very disappointed by the unprofessional mannerin which the matter was handled. I am even more concerned about the potential damage that may be done to my reputation that I have worked so hard to achieve and maintain.
My management has since been contacted by Red Stripe's Maxine Whittingham-Osbourne, who admitted it was miscommunication among Red Stripe representatives rather than any wrong doing on my part that resulted in this whole incident. She also stated that after reviewing the lyrics of the song, agreed I did not break any of Red Stripe's company codes. She apologized for failing to communicate with me prior to my performance that any lyrics were deemed questionable.
I still feel the need to take this opportunity to assure those who support my music that I am in no way at fault for Saturday night's unfortunate incident. I will continue to exercise discretion in my work, and I remain committed to the high level of integrity that has come to be expected of me.
3. Dancehall's Don Gargon Ninja Man who recently signed to Platinum Camp is scheduled to appear in court today (Tuesday April 7th) in relation to the death of 20 year-old Ricardo Johnson - Ninja Man will answer to charges of shooting with intent and conspiracy to commit murder.
Detectives of the St. Andrew South police have interrogated Ninja Man repeatedly in the presence of his lawyer Ms. Norma Linton - even though he has maintained his innocence, he was still charged after further investigation reveals that Ninja Man might be withholding important information that can be of help to the police investigation.
According to CCN, the incident took place on Tuesday March 17, 2009 at about 11:15 a.m. when three men drove up to Johnson's gate - he then got into an intense argument with the men who drove off but to later returned and sprayed Johnson's body with bullets. He was immediately rushed to the Kingston Public Hospital but failed to overcome his injuries.
AIDONIA CLEARED OF ALL CHARGES
Aidonia who recently celebrated his birthday has a lot more to be thankful for after he was cleared of all charges when he appeared before the Supreme Court in Downtown Kingston, yesterday morning.
The entertainer whose real name is Sheldon Lawrence was last year slapped with several charges ranging from conspiracy to shooting, illegal possession of firearm and shooting with intent stemming from an incident in the Shortwood Area in January 2008.
Valrie Nieta-Robertson the entertainer's legal counsel made application for the charges to be dismissed against her client after an alleged witness who was injured in the incident did not show to give his testimony and base on the lack of evidence on the part of the prosecution all charges were dropped and Resident Magistrate Williams advised Aidonia that he was free to go.
After the hearing a very jovial Aidonia said he was happy with the outcome and thanked everyone who had been supportive of him in his time of need.
"Mi just wah give Jah thanks we face trials everyday, because di case been going on for a year. Pon a level it mash up mi medz and di career likkle butjah was walking with me.. mi definitely expected a not guilty verdict so now we free up again we can focus on more positivity.... no more unnecessary entourage and di bag a idle thing ..yuh nuh see mi get rid a dem a just growth we a focus pon now ...to do better because is all about di music and entertaining the fans". - He added.
Aidonia's charges stemmed from a shooting incident in January 2008 in the proximity of Wedcombe Avenue off Shortwood Road where several shots were fired and one man was injured. When the police arrived on the scene upon further investigation it was revealed that the deejay’s name was one of those being called as being involved.
